Local English teachers judged the essays, and on 11 January 2008 the winners travelled to the British Embassy in Sarajevo to be presented with their prize - a week in the UK! - by the UK Ambassador, H.E. Matthew Rycroft, CBE. The BiH Ambassador, H.E. Dr Tanja Milasinovic, held a reception in their honour at the BiH Embassy in London on 22 January, and about 130 guests and Novi Most supporters attended. The successful essay writers were hosted by summer volunteer Pippa Stansbury, and accompanied by Novi Most worker Kate Wilson and Klub Volunteer Ena Kustinica. The winners spent time sightseeing in London and Cambridge, visited a local school and university, attended church and went to a West End show, and got a great insight into British culture and lots of opportunities to practice their English further! Our thanks to St Andrew’s Church, Oxshott, who helped with the costs.
You can read the winning essays on the links above...but please don’t reprint them without first obtaining permission from Novi Most International.
The essays are published with original spelling and grammar mistakes, and the views within them are those of their young authors, and not necessarily those of the judges, the BiH Embassy, or Novi Most International!
