Fundraising Idea of the Week: Painting Competition(see fun page)
Bosnia Herzegovina was one of six countries in the former Yugoslavia. In 1992, following the independence of Croatia and Slovenia in 1991, the people voted to become independant. Bosnian Serbs boycotted the vote as they did not want independence. The next three years were dominated by a war in which hundreds of thousands died and half the population were forced out of their homes as ethinc cleansing tore the country apart. It is a country steeped in Rich traditions and culture, and a flash point between East and West.
At Novi Most international we believe that Bosnia Herzegovina has a vital role in the future mission of the international church and the purposes and plans of God. Bosnian Herzegovinian Christians from whatever ethnic background, know a thing or two about forgiveness, and their testimonies are powerful witnesses to the love, grace and mercy of God.
The Dayton Peace Accords, which brought an end to the conflict by splitting the country into two political entities - the muslim-croat federation and the serb republic - were signed in December 1995.
Although small the country has an enormous amount to offer, but until justice is done and seen to be done, economic (and spiritual) progress is limited. Many in government aspire to join the European Union, but whilst indited war criminals such as Mladič remain at large progress is limited.
