Roma Education

In addition to its regular youth work, Novi Most International works with young people living in the poorest conditions in Mostar.  Bišce Polje is an area behind the Interex supermarket on the outskirts of the town, where people live in shacks and derelict buildings with no running water.  Through the Novi Most school sponsorship programme 15 children and young people are now able to regularly attend local school.

The sponsorship programme is important because the families don't have enough money to buy clothes for school.

Older teenagers are also catching up on some of their lost education by attending short courses so that they can take their school equivalency tests.

The work is led by Novi Most worker, Karin Antoni, and Novi Most has recently been awarded a grant by the Roma Education Fund (REF) to fund activities over the next three years.
