Work Experience
The Novi Most work experience programme, piloted in 2010, gave 6 young people the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in local businesses. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, unemployment levels amongst young people range between 40 - 60%. Finding work is a very tangible way of bringing hope and confidence.

"I got recommendations for my future job, new skills and knowledge that I didn’t have before. And of course, new friendships. I signed up for an English course, which I didn’t plan before. It helped me a lot. I gained work experience and learnt a lot. The most important is that this job awoken the hope for the future inside of me and helped me to develop self-confidence." - Milenko
Volunteers aged 18-24 were given the opportunity to gain experience in hairdressing, computing, secretarial and administration, waitressing and kitchen work - assistant chef.
"I am a lot more sure in my work and the placement fulfilled my expectations. This experience helped me getting a job - I have experience and recommendation. This project is really good." - Ivana
Out of the 6, one young person was offered a full-time job, two have started up their own businesses, and the other 3 are actively pursuing employment.
The project was funded by a group of London-based professionals, The Bread Tin. It was so successful, we plan to continue it -but it does depend on raising the necessary funding!
